Where were you born? Why do you live in Switzerland now?

Becky Lee
I was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. It's one of the hottest cities in the WORLD!
In 2000 I went to visit a friend in Bern for summer vacation and decided to stay..ran around Europe until the end of 2004 and visited home every Christmas.

Western Times
What is the music to which you listened for the first time?and Who was the show that you had seen for the first time? Was there a musician in the family?

Becky Lee
Dad liked Elvis and mom liked the Beatles. She used to play Beatles songs on an electric keyboard. She can play anything! Jump by Van Halen is one she still busts out with today. Her mother is a piano teacher and trained her...but the training stopped at my mom..
My parents took my brothers and I to see Chuck Berry at a place called Celebrity Theater around '88 and that was pretty great. The stage is circular and rotates slowly in the middle of the room!
Even though music wasn't passed down to us, it's still a big part of mine and my brother's lives. 2 brothers sing in bands, Champagne Velvet in LA and Gospel Claws in Phoenix, and the other brother does everything from Dean Martin to Ludacris at karaoke, ha!

Western Times
Are there hobbies other than music?

Becky Lee
I was teaching swing dancing workshops while I was in Europe the first time around. It's really called Lindy Hop, a partner dance that started solo as Charleston around the 1920s and then evolved into people dancing together. Search for contests on youtube to see how it's really done. It's super beautiful! I don't do it that much at the moment..it's more of a drinking-and-dancing-with-friends thing now.

Western Times
Were you in the band before? When did you play the guitar first?

Becky Lee
I played with my best friend down the street from 13-17. Ashley's family had the dough to buy guitar lessons so I just tried to pick stuff up from her. We liked to play Hole and Nirvana but mostly played songs I wrote...because I sucked too much to play other people's songs! I can still play Miss World but I don't remember any of the lyrics. My dad agreed to get me an electric guitar ONLY if i learned Roy Orbison songs..I should have listened to him more.
That first band died out when I switched focus over to dancing and teaching.

Western Times
Who plays with you by the image on MYSPACE?

Becky Lee
There is a swiss guy named Tobias who lives in Berlin now who does BONAPARTE...and sometimes he performs with a whole group and calls them a circus..with a hot girl eating fire and all kinds of madness. The musicians he plays with all play in this other pop Swiss group called Lunik so I think they really like to dress up and act a fool. They are in the costumes in my pictures...really good live... I sang with them once and there was a newspaper photographer there so that's where the moustache/group pictures are from.

Western Times
Please introduce the member with drunk foot(Systems of musical instruments)Is a new member scheduled to join?(Harmonica etc.)

Becky Lee
Drunkfoot is my foot. It's my drummer who sounds drunk because she's not that good. She plays a tambourine and a suitcase as a kick. Reverend Beatman and Christoph Angehrn have played drums a couple times with me which sounded better! I'm going to make a record with Voodoo Rhythm and I think we'll have Beatman on drums and some tracks with other musicians..but not too many. trying to keep a simple sound...

Western Times
Woman's one-man band is cool. Why was a one-man band going to be done?

Becky Lee
When I fell out of dancing and back into music I would naturally stomp along. Even if I'm playing with a drummer I can't cross my legs and play like a lady. Ha! Also some of my favorite people around are this guy Ben Todd who does Lonesome Shack in Seattle and Bob Log III, now in Australia. They both lived in Arizona when I lived there and are so great and I thought..welllll... I can't do that but at least I can keep time and be alone which was an attractive idea. Beat-man is also a big inspiration even though I never saw him play live until we did a mini-tour together in February '08...and can't forget Scott H. Biram and Possessed by Paul James and Delaney Davidson.. they all have a really inspiring one-man setup as well. RIP Hasil Adkins!! Yeah and just watch the old clips of John Lee Hooker...that simple stomp and guitar and strong voice is so hot..

Western Times
[big white Van]and[old fashioned man] is feeling of the country ballad. What is the music genre that becomes basic when you play?I feel roots music. What music do you usually like?

Becky Lee
I guess I default to a sort of roots sound. Some people say I'm a blues singer but I think it's just because I'm a person singing with and because of feelings. Who knows, though.. singing about fun stuff like cars and the typical "shot my baby" thing is great but what really gets to me is the real life, basic shit...love and friends and struggles and whatnot...which IS the blues in a way. I don't know- can somebody be a singer who has the blues without being described as a blues singer? All I know is that I keep it simple not only because I play like a 5 year old but also because I like that type of sound.
I like almost everything on Voodoo Rhythm. Not kidding. In The Red is great of course and Fat Possum and I really like the whole Nuggets and Pebbles collection. Of course old hot jazz and blues is a must because of the dancing..slim and slam is the jam and fats waller makes ya holler!!! yyyeaahh!

Western Times
From what are you influenced when the tune is made? Is there a sound policy?

Becky Lee
I can't stop singing about men and booze and other things I want but shouldn't.

Western Times
There are various kinds of garage music.60's garage, modern garage, etc. How do you catch the garage music?

Becky Lee
I'm not sure. I really like rock and roll. I'm a woman with a body that was built to feel but this body also likes to have fun and make noise and get down, goddammit! It gets boring if it's too sweet or sad or clean I guess.

Western Times
I cannot catch lyrics yet.Um.What lyrics do you sing?

Becky Lee
Which song?

Western Times
yeah![old fashioned men]!!!

Becky Lee
i'm in love with an old fashioned man x2
all he wanna do is play guitar and sing
and you won't catch him in no designer jeans

but oh i'm just as broke up as a girl could be
'cause old fashioned him, he don't want modern me

i'm in love with an old fashioned man, yes i am
i'm in love with an old fashioned man
he aint a year over thirty but he dresses the part
of a dear old granddad with a broken heart

but oh i'm just as broke up as a girl could be
'cause old fashioned him, he don't want modern me

see
i wanna go out and try the finer things in town
his old soul wants to go the forest, find a quarry and swim around
oh but it makes me want him even more

girls stay away from those old fashioned men
girls stay away from those old fashioned men
they'll break you even if you are a good woman
and they all seem to obsess over that romanticized ramblin'

and oh you'll be just as broke up as a girl could be
cause old fashioned he's don't want no modern she's
old fashioned he's don't want no modern
old fashioned he's don't want no modern
old fashioned he's don't want no modern she-ee-ee-eeess

Western Times
Please teach me the one man band of the favor.

Becky Lee
Check out the answers from before! Oh also Two Tears and The Venus Flytrap One Girl Band are two one-lady bands that everyone should know about!

Western Times
Do you play a cover in live shows?

Becky Lee
I play a song "Die Easy" by Josh White but it's different. Same lyrics and almost same melody but only two chords.

Western Times
The record release is waited for. What feeling is it now? Are you doing contact to label?

Becky Lee
A couple weeks ago Beat-man approached me about doing something on Voodoo Rhythm and my head almost popped off because I really love that label. Hopefully that will be finished in the next 6 months.

Western Times
What content is a voodoo album?

Becky Lee
not really sure what's going to be on it yet because i'm working on some new songs and beatman will play drums on some tracks..i'm really excited to see what will happen!

Western Times
Please teach any activity schedule etc. for the future.

Becky Lee
I'm in Arizona right now seeing family+friends and playing a couple shows. In a week I'll go to LA for more family+friends and shows and then if things work out right I'll play some shows in Austin and Houston and maybe Denver.
Then back to Switzerland, play, and then an Italy, Spain, Portugal tour in September! Maybe France as well! 2008 is going to be fun!!Oh and big hello to Davila 666!
